Spring Harbor School Mounds
(Spring Harbor Group or Merrill Creek Group
or Spring Haven Group or Warner Group II)
National Register of Historic Places

This group of mounds that once consisted of 1 bear, 1 bird and 3 linears, overlooks the spot (now called Spring Harbor) where
old Merrill Creek emptied into Lake Mendota. The group is down to the bear effigy surviving on school grounds and 1 linear on
private property on top of the hill.
The bear effigy is in good shape, and doesn't get mowed. Since it's located on busy school grounds, it would make sense to
install decorative fencing around the mound, though. On the other hand, the school maintains outline of the effigy (seen in the photos)
to prevent mowers from accidentally intruding onto the mound.
