Jefferson Tamarack Swamp Mound

 

  According to Jefferson County documents, there is a long (several hundred feet) effigy mound, most likely panther, on the wooded island

in the middle of the Jefferson Tamarack Swamp State Natural Area. Lacking special clothes and equipment, I was not able to penetrate

the marsh to get to the island. No other information is available about this mound, except that this is one of the biggest effigies in Wisconsin.
