Burrows Park Effigy
(Burrows Park Effigy & Campsite)
National Register of Historic Places

The bird effigy is well marked and maintained (no mowing occurs over the mound unlike surrounding area). However, it is
unfortunate being located between a parking lot and a playground. People coming up from the parking to the playground don’t
see it and walk right over the effigy. I would suggest decorative fencing or at least some sort of marking on the north side of the
mound to alert public to its presence. The effigy is 128 feet in wingspan. It was damaged by looters in earlier years, but restored
by WPA workers under the leadership of Charles Brown. According to the latter, there used to be running fox (or wolf) effigy
located on the adjoining property, but it was since destroyed.
